Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about Rotting Skulls, reviews, accounts, and how the site works.

What is Rotting Skulls?
We’re an archive and community resource focused on Extreme Haunt experiences—documenting shows, collecting reviews, and helping participants understand what to expect before they step inside.
What is an Extreme Haunt?
Extreme Haunts are defined here as any immersive horror experience that incorporates physical elements beyond light touch.
How do I leave a review?
Go to the Archive, choose a haunt and show, and click Review. You’ll need to sign in with your Google account first. Reviews are stored centrally and displayed on the show’s page.
Are reviews anonymous?
Publicly—yes. Reviews are shown without your identity. Internally, we store your account’s email and name to prevent abuse (like multiple reviews on the same show) and to let admins moderate if needed.
What does the 1–5 rating scale mean?
Our iconography maps to:
  • 1 – Rotting: very negative experience
  • 2 – Worn: below average
  • 3 – Cracked: mixed/average
  • 4 – Clean: strong positive experience
  • 5 – Crystal: outstanding, exceptional
Why do I have to sign in?
Sign-in prevents spam, lets us limit one current review per account per show, and improves moderation. Your public review remains anonymous to other users.
I signed in but the page didn’t update.
The site should refresh automatically after a successful sign-in. If it doesn’t:
  • Hard refresh the page (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R).
  • Make sure your browser allows third-party cookies for Google sign-in.
Can I edit or delete my review?
You may edit and/or change your rating for any reviews by hitting the Review Button again. For deletion requests, contact us via Contact Us.
How are reviews moderated?
We enforce community guidelines and remove content that is doxxing, hateful, threatening, or clearly fabricated. Admins can remove individual reviews or bulk-clear spam from a show/haunt.
How are haunts and shows added?
We curate new entries regularly. If we’re missing something, send details via Contact Us and we’ll review it for inclusion.
What data do you store about me?
When you review, we store: your Google account email and name, which haunts/shows you’ve reviewed, your review text, rating, and a hashed IP for abuse control. Public pages never show your identity.
Is this a safety guide?
No—reviews are personal experiences and opinions. Extreme haunts can involve physical and psychological risks. Research organizers’ content warnings and waivers, and make informed decisions.
How do I report an issue with a review or listing?
Use Contact Us and include links/screenshots. We’ll review and follow up.
How do you get the show descriptions?
Show descriptions are explicitly pulled from the haunts website, socials, or other published media by the haunt. These can also be submitted directly to us by the creator through Here
Do you list remote shows or online ARGs?
No we require physical actor-participant contact to qualify for being listed.
Why isn't McKamey Manor on here?
We do not consider them an extreme haunt and will not list them.
